MISSION
The SMSA Booster Club supports the Scottsdale MSA at Saguaro High School and its mission to provide opportunities and visibility in the area of STEM education for the students of the Scottsdale Unified School District. Thus, while the program is designed to support students who choose to enter the MSA, the program's open forum provides many of the same academic opportunities to any Saguaro student who wishes to take advantage of the academics and enrichment opportunities inherent in the initiative - conceptually, an 'open village', in which all Saguaro students stand to benefit from the MSA's successes. This inclusivity is a hallmark of the program and its greatest strength. Students within the program retain a sense of connectivity and responsibility for their peers outside the program; and all students in SUSD, whether in the program or not, are invited to participate in MSA community enrichment events. |
The Scottsdale Math and Science Academy at Saguaro High School was established in 2008 with just 9 students in recognition of the need to provide a practical, innovative and inspiring approach to educating SUSD students in the STEM fields.
In 2012, the Saguaro MSA Booster Club was formed by a group of parents to support the students, teachers and coordinator of the Academy. The program has experienced levels of growth and visibility unparalleled in SUSD and currently has approximately 320 students for the 2021-22 academic year! Furthermore, many of the Academy’s programs, such as the Robotics, CyberPatriot, and Sisters in STEM teams, and their students have received awards and recognition for their accomplishments. The Academy also hosts a STEAM Showcase, highlighting the importance of integrating STEM and the Arts.
The Saguaro Math and Science Academy Booster Club, Inc. is a non-profit organization (TAX ID #: 46-1495741) that provides support and fundraising for the Scottsdale MSA. The Mission Statement of the Scottsdale MSA is to provide enhanced opportunities to the students of the Scottsdale Unified School District in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Academy students graduate highly motivated and fully qualified to pursue STEM-oriented degrees at the post-secondary level.
